In the primary level of Gimnasio El Hontanar your children enjoy activities and games while they are learning. They are in the right age to develop autonomous thinking, they have the abilities to acknowledge their mistakes, make new friends and their learning process takes a whole new meaning: they learn to make their first decisions.
How do we make it possible?
We strenghten the basic processes of language development both in Spanish and English.
We work under the Teaching for Understanding Approach, through interdisciplinary academic projects that allow your children to develop their critical thinking, discover social skills and create working routines. We reinforce their cognitive skills with ludic activities in order to make learning fun, so It becomes an enriching adventure free from monotony.

We know that your main concern is quality education for your children. For this reason, our classrooms have a maximum capacity of 25 students which allows them to be focused and learning at their own pace.
A FRAMEWORK DESIGNED FOR BILINGUALISM
The self-contained strategy in second grade makes integrated teaching of bilingual areas possible: Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Arts and Technology. The phonics intensive component facilitates successful English writing processes.
PBL (Project Based Learning) enriches the bilingual process due to the design of projects that allow different areas to be articulated with the second language. Thus, PBL has become a pedagogical activity that stimulates your children´s creativity and makes them able to demonstrate their learning.
EXPLORATION AND RESEARCH OUT OF THE CLASSROOM
Throughout the year students and teachers organize pedagogical expeditions for 1 or 2 days close to the city of Bogotá. They learn the history and the cultural, ancient, and natural richness of our country.
Second grade children participate in the Jamborie Project, one of the most significant events of the entire school year. Students long for this activity eagerly, since they enjoy a camping night at achool and it represents the beginning of their autonomy.
